Possibly the oldest town in Britain, Colchester was for a while the capital of Roman Britain, at which time it was known as Camulodunum, this prevailed until it was attacked and destroyed by the forces of Boadicea in AD61, when the capital was moved to London. Colchester these days has a population of around 105,000 and is one of the driest towns in England.
Colchester can be accessed from the A12, the A133, the A134 and the A137, it also has rail links with Central London and Norwich.
