Perhaps not the prettiest of places, Playa del Ingles is still one of the most popular destinations on the island of Gran Canaria in the Spanish Canary Islands. Renowned not for its beauty, history or culture, but for its climate, fine beach and lively nightlife, Playa del Ingles is something of a concrete jungle, a testament to the unplanned nature of its development.
When not sunning themselves on the beach, most visitors gather around the Yumbo Centrum, commercial centre, where dozens of shops, bars and restaurants compete for the tourist's euros.
The beach is splendid and was man-made with golden sand imported from the deserts of Africa, the climate is also delightful all year round, making Playa del Ingles a popular winter destination, perfect for a break away from the cold and damp of northern Europe.
