Wakefield is a large town located beside the River Calder in West Yorkshire, it has a population of around 77,000 and a history which stretches back to Anglo-Saxon times. Named in the Domesday Book as Wachefeld, its name probably derives from the Old English wacu feld or "field where a wake is held". Wakefield grew, along with many other Yorkshire towns, around the textile industry during the Industrial Revolution.
