A village of stone and thatch cottages located at the foot of the Downs, Abbotsbury has a population of around 500, and features a ruined Benedictine Abbey dating from the 12th century, its parish church of St Nicholas was formerly part of the Abbey and dates from the 14th and 15th centuries. Also of interest in Abbotsbury are the swannery, the great tithe barn and the Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens.
Abbotsbury is located on the Fleet, near to Chesil Bank, to the south-west of Dorchester, it is about 9 miles from Weymouth, 10 miles from Dorchester, 39 miles from Bournemouth, and a driving distance of 139 miles from London.
