The capital city of the Emilia-Romano region of north-eastern Italy, Bologna is situated in the Po River valley and has a population of about 375,000, it is renowned as having the oldest university in the world - The University of Bologna which was established in 1088. The city was founded as Velzna by the Etruscans in the 6th century BC.
