Situated just 6 miles south of Saint Austell, the small fishing village of Mevagissey is now more reliant on its tourism industry than its traditional fishing. Nestled in a small valley facing Mevagissey Bay, the village was probably settled as long ago as the Bronze Age, though the first mention of it was in the 14th century when its was known as Porthhilly.
