A large village and civil parish with a population of just under 4,000, Long Melford is situated on the River Stour to the north-west of Sudbury in Suffolk. Long Melford was settled during Roman times and was mentioned in the Domesday Book (1086). The village is notable for its enormous 15th century parish church (Holy Trinity Church), which resembles a cathedral, such are its proportions. The wealth of Long Melford came from the wool trade.
