Formerly a small fishing village with a history of smuggling, Thorpeness was turned into a fantasy holiday village by Stuart Ogilvie in the early 20th century, with facilities for golfing, tennis and swimming, it remains a popular summer holiday destination to this day.
Thorpeness can be reached via the B1353 from Aldringham, the nearest major road is the A12.
