A market town lying on the River Anker in Warwickshire, Nuneaton has a population of over 70,000 and a history going back to the time of the Domesday Book, when it was just a tiny hamlet called Etone. It was however, around a Benedictine Nunnery that the town mostly grew during the twelfth century. Its weekly market, which still takes place today, originates from the year 1233. Nuneaton later became important for textiles, brick-making, brewing and tile manufacture.
