A hugely popular tourist destinaton standing on the River Avon, in the county of Warwickshire, Stratford-Upon-Avon is famous as the birthplace of poet and playwright William Shakespeare, it has a population of around 25,000 and a history going back to Anglo-Saxon times, it has been a market town since first receiving its charter in the 12th century. The first proper theatre was built by David Garrick in 1769, subsequent theatres has fallen into disrepair and ben rebuilt over the centuries.
