Ringmer is a peaceful village tucked away just a few miles east of Lewes in East Sussex. With its wide green spaces, traditional homes and steady pace of life, it's the kind of place that feels rooted and familiar. Surrounded by countryside, yet never far from the coast or the bustle of larger towns, Ringmer strikes a neat balance between rural charm and convenience.

Its history goes back a long way, with traces of early Saxon settlement and plenty of evidence of its agricultural past. Over time, Ringmer grew as a farming village, with its windmill and open commons playing a big role in village life. The parish church of St Mary's has stood for centuries, and the village's links with education and livestock breeding go back generations. The South of England Showground isn't far, and the local culture still reflects that strong connection to the land.

In the village itself, there's more going on than first meets the eye. You'll find a variety of shops, a handy Co-op, a post office, a couple of pubs and a good mix of takeaways and cafés. There's a decent choice of schools, a doctors' surgery, a leisure centre and sports clubs that bring the community together. The village hall's often buzzing with activity, and the green is a hub for summer events and cricket matches.

Venturing beyond, East Sussex has plenty up its sleeve. Lewes is just down the road, with its historic castle, quirky shops and winding lanes. Glyndebourne's nearby too, perfect for opera lovers, and the South Downs National Park stretches out in every direction. Seaside trips to Seaford, Newhaven or even Brighton make for easy day-outs, while history fans can head towards Battle or Herstmonceux.

Getting to and from Ringmer is fairly straightforward. The A26 links you quickly to Lewes and onwards to the coast or up to Uckfield. The nearest train station is in Lewes, offering direct services to London, Brighton and beyond. Gatwick is the closest major airport, just under an hour's drive. Buses run through the village regularly, keeping it connected without needing a car for everything.

East Sussex as a whole is packed with variety—rolling downland, ancient woodland, windswept coastlines and postcard-perfect villages. From the hills of the High Weald to the shores of Rye Bay, it's a county rich in scenery and stories. There's a slower pace here, but it's never dull, with festivals, markets and outdoor adventures at every turn.
