A small village with a population of around 900, Ampleforth was the site of an abbey founded by English Benedictine monks in the 18th century. The parish church of St Hilda dates originally from Saxon times, and features an Early English doorway.

Situated on the southern edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, Ampleforth is a good base for touring this beautiful area.

Ampleforth can be reached by way of the B1527 or the B1363, via Yearsley, it is about 20 miles from York, 88 miles from Sheffield, and 238 miles driving distance from London.
