A large city with a population of around 760,000, Leeds is also an ancient place, with a history stretching back to the 5th century, when it acquired its name from the Celtic "Loidis" and was part of the Kingdom of Elmet. Leeds grew rapidly in size and wealth during the Industrial Revolution, when it was renowned for its wool related trades.
Leeds can be accessed via the M1 (M621), the A61 and A64.
