The famous walled city of York was originally founded by the Romans as Eboracum in 71 AD. Later taken over by the Angles and then the Vikings, York was an important capital for both. First called 'York' in the 13th century, it developed due to the wool trade. York today has a population of around 200,000.
York can be accessed by way of the A19, A64 (M1), and A59.
