Langport is a small Somerset town that lies beside the River Parrett, it is surrounded by the flat wetlands and big skies of the Somerset Levels. Together with neighbouring Huish Episcopi, the area is home to roughly 3,000 people, and its history stretches back to Saxon times, when its raised position and river crossing gave it real strategic importance. The Battle of Langport in 1645 was a major clash during the English Civil War, while river trade later helped to keep the town ticking over.

The A372 and nearby A378 provide road links towards Bridgwater, Taunton and Yeovil, with buses handling public transport as Langport no longer has a passenger railway station. Independent shops, cafés, pubs, schools, a library and medical facilities cover the everyday essentials, while walks beside the Parrett are a local favourite. Muchelney Abbey is the standout nearby English Heritage site, with Meare Fish House further north. National Trust properties within easy reach include Barrington Court, Lytes Cary Manor and Montacute House, with Glastonbury and Ham Hill adding more choice.
