Stockport is a characterful town on the southern edge of Greater Manchester, where red-brick mills and winding old lanes give way to busy high streets, leafy suburbs and sweeping views across the Pennines. The town's best known for its giant railway viaduct and its past in hat-making, but it's much more than that—it's a mix of market town charm and modern energy, with canals, cobbles and quirky corners all wrapped into one. The town's history stretches back over a thousand years, with mentions in the Domesday Book and deep medieval roots. Stockport's a commuter's dream, really well connected by road and rail. The M60 loops around it, and there's easy access to the M56 and M62. Trains from Stockport Station head directly into Manchester, London, Birmingham and plenty of other big names. Local bus routes fan out across the borough and beyond, and there's talk of Metrolink extending south in future. Manchester Airport is only about 15 minutes away by road and even quicker by train, giving you loads of flight options if you're heading further afield.
