Evesham rests right in the heart of the Vale of Evesham, tucked into a bend of the River Avon, with rolling fields and orchards stretching out all around it. The town's got a proper market town feel, with its mix of old timbered buildings, riverside walks and a steady pace that makes it easy to lose a couple of hours just pottering about. Known for its blossom and market gardening, Evesham's one of those places where the countryside feels like it's part of the town itself.

The town's history goes right back to Saxon times. Legend says it was founded after a swineherd named Eof had a vision of the Virgin Mary here, leading to the establishment of Evesham Abbey in the 8th century. The abbey grew into one of the most powerful monasteries in England before Henry VIII's dissolution swept it away. Bits of the abbey still stand today, hinting at just how grand it once was. Over the centuries, Evesham became known for farming, market gardening and fruit growing, especially apples, plums and asparagus. Today, with a population of around 27,000, Evesham keeps its historic core while serving as a lively market town with modern shops and businesses.

There's plenty to enjoy in town. The Bell Tower is the most striking remnant of the old abbey, still standing proudly near Abbey Park, which itself offers green spaces, a playground and pretty riverside paths. The Almonry Museum tells the story of Evesham's history, from its abbey days through to market gardening and more. A wander along the river gives great views, while boat trips let you see it all from the water. Just outside town, the National Trust's Hidcote Manor Garden and Snowshill Manor sit within easy reach, both offering beautiful gardens and fascinating collections. English Heritage's Hailes Abbey, just over the border, gives another glimpse of monastic history.

Further afield, Worcestershire's full of places to explore. Worcester offers its cathedral, museums and riverside walks. The Malvern Hills pull walkers all year round, while Bewdley and Stourport sit along the Severn with their riverside pubs, boat trips and old streets. Kidderminster's got the Severn Valley Railway, and Pershore brings its peaceful market town vibe with plenty of orchard-lined country lanes. Hanbury Hall and Witley Court are both easy to reach for a day out steeped in history.

Evesham's well connected for getting about. The A46 and A44 meet here, giving good routes towards Worcester, Stratford-upon-Avon and the Cotswolds. The M5 isn't far either. Evesham railway station offers direct services to Worcester, Oxford and London Paddington, making it handy for both local travel and longer trips. Buses link the town to nearby villages and towns, while Birmingham Airport sits just under an hour away by car, offering a full range of domestic and international flights.

Worcestershire's one of those counties that quietly delivers everything you want — busy market towns, rich farmland, historic buildings, rivers, hills and a proper sense of space. Whether you're walking through the Malverns, exploring Worcester's old streets, wandering the Vale's blossom trails or sitting by a riverside pub, it always feels relaxed and easy-going. The history's never far away, but neither are good shops, great views and friendly faces.

We hope you found this Evesham tourist map useful for your visit to the area.
