Histon lies about a mile north of the city of Cambridge and it has joined with neighbouring Impington to provide plenty of vital services. It has old roots, as the village of Histon appears in the Domesday Book, but it mostly developed as a result of agriculture and thanks to Chivers's jam factory, which became one of the major employers in the village. Histon and Impington together have about 12,000 people living in the area, which creates a more populated feeling than many other villages in Cambridgeshire.
The public transport system works quite nicely in the area and provides a frequent bus linkage to Cambridge, an easy way to the A14 and Guided Busway and Cambridge North, which is helpful for those travelling by trains. In Histon there are shops, pubs, restaurants, schools, sports centres, churches, parks and hospital, while Histon & Impington Rec is situated in the village.
