Located between Newton Abbot and at the point where the Teign Estuary opens onto the sea, Kingsteignton is in an excellent location to access both coast and countryside, while still retaining much of its original Devon character. Traditionally known as a centre for ball clay extraction and brickmaking, Kingsteignton has grown to approximately 12,000 residents from the Victorian period onwards. Many buildings remain from earlier times, such as St Michael's Church; however, most of the newer developments have occurred in the vicinity of the A380 corridor.
Transport connections are another major factor that attract people to Kingsteignton; there are excellent road connections to Exeter, Torbay, and Plymouth, and there are also rail connections from Newton Abbot to other areas of the country. In addition to good transport links, there are also many local businesses providing essential services including schools, pubs, supermarkets, and sports clubs. Hackney Marshes and the Teign Estuary provide excellent opportunities for walkers and birdwatchers. There are many interesting attractions within a short distance of Kingsteignton; for example, Castle Drogo is an impressive property owned by the National Trust located on Dartmoor, while Bradley Manor and Compton Castle are two sites managed by English Heritage. Dartmoor National Park, Teignmouth, and the South Devon coastline can all be reached within minutes of leaving from Kingsteignton, making them great destinations to explore.
