Kingsbridge is located within the South Hams dostrict, nestled deep inside an enclosed estuary providing residents & tourists with a more laid-back feeling than if you were living or visiting on the busy beaches along the coastline. The town originally started off as a market that developed as people travelled through the area to cross the Kingsbridge Estuary at the bridge where Kingsbridge currently stands. With agriculture, trading & shipbuilding contributing to the towns historic growth; today it houses around 6,000 people who are there most of the time but when summer comes, many more visit & create an increased sense of liveliness after the holidays arrive! Walkers, sailors & other people who would like to slow down for a few days will all be found in and around Kingsbridge due in part to its narrow streets filled with independent stores and waterfront walking paths, as well as being surrounded by beautiful countryside with many opportunities for walking/hiking.
Connecting to the town would include A379 (from Plymouth), A381, (from Totnes) and A381(to Dartmouth), while the nearest rail connections would be found at Totnes (20 minutes ride away). The two nearest National Trust sites would be Overbeck’s Garden (near Salcombe) and the dramatic coastline located near Bolt Head and East Soar. For those who enjoy seeing places from the time of King Henry VIII; many of the castle ruins along with their surrounding structures built during that timeframe would be considered of Historical Significance by many from the UK and countries around the world including all of the areas between Keswick and Exeter. Also nearby are many beautiful beaches (Bantham, Hope Cove & Bigbury Sea), to walk along while holding a pasty in one hand and feeling the sea breeze blowing through your hair with the other hand!
