Chudleigh is located on the edge of Dartmoor between Newton Abbot and Exeter, providing a great location and benefiting from a combination of scenic countryside and small-town living. The town has a long history, going back to Saxon times, and was granted a Market Charter in the 13th century. In 1807, a terrible fire caused significant changes to the layout of much of the town centre; however, many of the original style elements can still be seen in the many streets around St Martin's and St Mary's Churches. Chudleigh, with its population of approximately 7500 people, continues to attract families looking for a quieter lifestyle with good access to the larger centres of Devon.
The adjacent A38 offers excellent road transport links to both Exmouth, Plymouth and the coast of South Devon, and there are trains from Newton Abbot. Chudleigh Rocks Nature Reserve and the nearby Haldon Forest provide great areas for both walking and cycling. Some attractions within easy reach of Chudleigh that are members of the National Trust include Castle Drogo and Bradley Manor; while there are many English Heritage attractions including the remains of Grimspound and prehistoric sites all over Dartmoor. There are enough places within easy access of Chudleigh including Teignmouth, Shaldon and Dartmoor to enjoy a relaxed day out.
We hope you found this Chudleigh tourist map useful for your visit to the area.
