Lee-on-the-Solent is a relaxed seaside town on Hampshire's south coast, squeezed neatly between Gosport and Fareham, looking straight across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. It's the sort of place you go for some fresh air, a walk along the promenade and perhaps fish and chips by the sea. It has a relaxed, laidback feel to it, with a mix of old-fashioned seafront charm and day-to-day local life humming in the background. The population is around 20,000 give or take and it's a hodgepodge of families, retirees and those who have lingered long after their service days.

It's easy enough to get to Lee-on-the-Solent, even though it no longer has its own station. The M27 runs nearby, linking the area with Southampton and Portsmouth, and from there you can join the wider motorway network. The nearest railway stations are Fareham and Gosport, with regular buses for the final part of the journey into town. Air travel: The nearest airport is Southampton Airport around half an hour by car with domestic and some international flights. Once you're here, getting around is easy enough, on foot or on local buses, especially along the coast.
