This little seaside village, Bigbury-on-Sea located in the South Hams region of Devon is famous for its long sandy beach and beautiful views towards Burgh Island. From a quiet farming and fishing centre it grew to become a popular tourist resort in the early 1900s thanks to the famous Art Deco Burgh Island hotel being built. The number of permanent residents is usually provided in relation to the whole parish with the population less than 600 people. However, this number increases significantly in summer. The only access to the village is through country lanes from the A379 near Modbury (the nearest train station is in Ivybridge). The beach is the main attraction in the village as it offers swimming, surfing and access to the South West coast path as the famous sea tractor takes people to Burgh Island from the locked causeway. Besides, there is a National Trust land near Ringmore and Ayrmer cove offering different coastal trails, while Overbeck's Garden in Salcombe may also be an excellent place to visit. Lastly, Totnes castle by English Heritage can also be visited during a day trip, although there are many other places to choose from such as Bantham, Kingsbridge, and Dartmouth.
