Located within North Devon, Yelland is a village that can be found on the southern bank of the Taw Estuary and is located between Barnstaple and Instow with the landscape featuring open lands and river vistas. Initially a farming settlement, Yelland experienced tremendous transformation in the twentieth century as the Yelland Power Station turned the village into an industrial center, bringing with it employment opportunities for the locals. The power station was put to rest in 1984 and later on totally dismantled and thus the location has been earmarked with hopes to re-establish it. Yelland is situated in the wider community of Fremington parish. Yelland itself has a population of around 2,000. The A39 is located nearby and provides easy means of reaching Barnstaple, Bideford and the neighboring regions. Barnstaple is home to the closest railway station.
