Starcross is a village located beside the water on the western side of the Exe Estuary, nestled between Exeter and Dawlish, offering stunning views over the water towards Exmouth, it has a population of around 1,700 residents and has emerged from being a fishing and agricultural settlement to becoming important due to the history of rail travel. The old pumping station located next to the railway station is a remnant of the Victorian atmospheric railway experiment created by Brunel. Starcross allows for travel via train to Exeter, Dawlish, Teignmouth, and Torbay, and has a road running through it (A379), and it also has a seasonal passenger ferry transport across the Estuary to Exmouth.
