Fordham is a decent sized village in East Cambridgeshire, and is located between Newmarket and Ely. It has around 2800 residents and can trace its history back to the Domesday Book, hence many of its older buildings contribute to the overall atmosphere of a traditional village. Though Fordham is comfortably equipped with numerous shops, pubs and other everyday facilities, an adjacent town of Newmarket (Suffolk) provides any additional benefits if needed.

The A142 bypasses the village and provides quick access to Newmarket, Ely and the A14, although Fordham has not had a railway station since the 1960s; Newmarket and Ely are the key stations for the area now. Fordham Woods Nature Reserve is a great local attraction for walking and observing wildlife. More distant attractions include the National Trust's Wicken Fen and Anglesey Abbey, while Ickworth can be reached across the border of Suffolk. The historical site of Denny Abbey should also be considered and horse races are extremely close in Newmarket.
