Melbourn is a large South Cambridgeshire village that is located around ten miles south-west of Cambridge, and has a population of around 5,000. Its historic roots stretch back to Saxon times, and its All Saints' Church, old cottages and traditional lanes give away some of that history. The village has its fair share of shops, pubs, schools, medical services, sports facilities and a lively community scene. The A10 runs nearby, while Meldreth railway station is within easy reach for trains to Cambridge and London. Local walks lead into pleasant chalk countryside, with Shepreth Wildlife Park nearby. National Trust favourite Wimpole Estate is an easy enough trip, while English Heritage's Audley End House is also within easy driving distance, if that takes your fancy.
