Somersham is a large Cambridgeshire village that is located between St Ives and Chatteris, and has a population of around 4,000 people. Its history goes right back to Saxon times, and Somersham Palace once served as a residence for the Bishops of Ely, although very little of this survives today. The village has a decent selection of shops, pubs, schools, medical services, sports facilities and a popular nature reserve, so everyday needs are pretty much covered for those who live there. Road links run to St Ives, Huntingdon, Chatteris and the A141, whilst Huntingdon provides local mainline rail services. Nearby attractions include the Great Ouse countryside and Ely. National Trust days out could include Wicken Fen and Houghton Mill, with English Heritage's Denny Abbey also nearby.
