Pevensey is a historic village located in East Sussex and is situated between Eastbourne and Bexhill on the coast of England, famous for its large Roman and Norman castle within the village's centre. The village has an interesting history spanning almost 2000 years, and the castle is synonymous with William the Conqueror's arrival in Britain in 1066. Currently around 3000 people live in the village, and despite its historical significance, Pevensey retains a casual, local atmosphere with pubs, cafés and independent retailers operating successfully.
Local railway stations are located in Pevensey and Pevensey Bay, with links to Brighton, Hastings and London; while the A27 and A259 trunk roads provide reasonable road-accessibility. The village is visited by those interested in its history and its castle-like structures; the locality also attracts many visitors due to its proximity to the beach and nature reserves, with Eastbourne's seafront being a short drive from Pevensey. Nearby attractions of the National Trust that are popular with visitors include Birling Gap and Bateman's; similarly, the Papacy and English Heritage visitors continue to go to Pevensey Castle and Battle Abbey. Pevensey has the feeling of a place where old walls, Fish and Chips, and windswept walks will always be found together.
