Heanor is a town that is located in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire. Coal, textiles and ironworking did much of the heavy lifting in turning Heanor from a rural settlement into the Derbyshire town that can be seen today. With around 23,000 people in the wider urban area, Heanor now has a busy centre of shops, cafés, pubs and everyday services, while Shipley Country Park provides a welcome patch of green nearby. The A608 and A6007 handle local road traffic, with Langley Mill station offering trains to Nottingham and Sheffield and the M1 only a short drive away. Heanor's industrial past can still be spotted around town today. For days out, National Trust-owned Kedleston Hall and Calke Abbey are within reach, while English Heritage's Codnor Castle is also close by.
