Shirebrook is a town and civil parish that is located in the Bolsover District of Derbyshire. Few things have changed Shirebrook quite as dramatically as coal did. Once existing as a small rural settlement, it expanded at a fair old pace after Shirebrook Colliery opened in the late 19th century, drawing workers and families into the area. Today the town has around 10,000 residents (13,300 in the parish), a traditional market centre, supermarkets, schools, healthcare and plenty of everyday services. Shirebrook railway station gives direct connections to Nottingham and Worksop, while the A632 and nearby M1 motorway handle longer road journeys. Poolsbrook Country Park and the countryside towards Pleasley offer space to get outdoors. For something grander, English Heritage's Bolsover Castle is only a short trip away, with the National Trust's Hardwick Hall also within reach.
