Brimington is a large village that is located in the Borough of Chesterfield in Derbyshire. The Chesterfield Canal gives Brimington a different flavour from some of the old mining villages that are scattered around this part of Derbyshire. A population of about 8,000 people live in the parish, and its story runs from medieval farming through to coal, iron and manufacturing, to the mainly residential community that is seen there today. Chesterfield is barely a couple of miles away, so its railway station and larger shopping centre are easy for the local people to reach, while the A619 and nearby M1 motorway take care of road trips. The village of Brimington itself has schools, pubs, shops, healthcare and recreation grounds. Canal walks lead to Staveley and Tapton, with the National Trust-owned Hardwick Hall a short drive away. Bolsover Castle (English Heritage) is even closer, bringing some grand Cavendish history into the mix if you are looking for an outing.
