New Whittington is a village that is located in the Borough of Chesterfield in Derbyshire, East Midlands. New Whittington sits to the north-east of Chesterfield, where rows of traditional housing and former industrial ground reflect a village that was largely shaped by the railway, ironworks and coalfields. It mainly developed during the 19th century, and is quite a contrast with much older Old Whittington, and today the wider Whittington area has a population of about 5,000 residents. Local roads give quick access to Staveley, Chesterfield and the A619, with the M1 motorway only a few miles away for longer journeys. Chesterfield provides the nearest main railway station for those who prefer the train. Shops, pubs, schools and community facilities cover the basics for the villagers who live there, while Chesterfield Canal offers great walking opportunities. For day trippers, English Heritage's Bolsover Castle is within easy reach, and National Trust-owned Hardwick Hall is also nearby (12 miles).
