Whaley Bridge is a town and parish that is located in the High Peak district of north Derbyshire. Whaley Bridge has water, hills and old industry woven into its character, as it sits beside the Peak Forest Canal and the River Goyt on the edge of the Peak District. Around 6,500 people live in the Whaley Bridge parish, which expanded during the Industrial Revolution through cotton, coal and canal trade. Its canal basin still shows evidence of that working past, and now makes a pleasant spot for walking enthusiasts. Trains run from Whaley Bridge station to Manchester and Buxton, with the A6 close by for road journeys. The town has a number of independent shops, cafés, pubs, schools and healthcare services, while nearby walks include those around Toddbrook Reservoir. The National Trust-owned Lyme is within easy reach, while English Heritage's Peveril Castle lies somewhat deeper into the Peak District.
