North Wingfield is a largish village and civil parish that is located in the North East Derbyshire region. North Wingfield has changed from an old farming village into a much larger community, with coal mining driving a good deal of its expansion during the 19th and 20th centuries. Around 7,000 people live in the parish today, and the medieval Church of St Lawrence is a reminder of just how far back the place goes. Clay Cross is close by for bigger shops, while the A6175, A61 and nearby M1 provide road access to Chesterfield, Mansfield and Sheffield; Chesterfield is the most useful railway station for longer rail journeys. Local schools, shops, pubs and healthcare cover the essentials for residents. For days out Hardwick Hall (National Trust) isn't too far away, nor is Bolsover Castle (English Heritage) another nearby historic site.
