Swanwick is a village that is located in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire. Swanwick lies between Alfreton and Ripley, and its mix of older cottages, former industrial sites and modern housing says plenty about how the village has changed over the centuries. With a population of about 5,000 people, Swanwick was once closely tied to coal mining, ironworking and the wider Butterley industries, while Swanwick Hall harps back to the area's more prosperous past. The A38 passes close by, the M1 motorway is only a short drive away, and Alfreton provides the nearest railway station for train travellers. Shops, schools, pubs, sports grounds and local services keep the village residents busy. Midland Railway – Butterley is nearby for a heritage day out, with National Trust-owned Hardwick Hall and English Heritage's Bolsover Castle both easily reached by car if you fancy a trip out.
