Borrowash is a village that is located in the Erewash district of south Derbyshire. Borrowash grew up beside the River Derwent and now forms a sizeable community with neighbouring Ockbrook, their combined parish population sitting at about 8,000. The village changed alot during the 19th century as mills, railways and industry spread rapidly along the Derwent Valley, although its older lanes and nearby countryside have not yet disappeared altogether. Borrowash has a useful shopping area, pubs, schools, healthcare and sports facilities, with the A52 making Derby and Nottingham fairly painless to reach by road. Spondon is the nearest railway station for passenger trains. Elvaston Castle Country Park is only a short hop away, while National Trust-owned Kedleston Hall makes for a grander day out. English Heritage's Melbourne Castle ruins provide another historic stop abit farther south.
