Sandiacre is a town and civil parish that is located in the borough of Erewash in south-east Derbyshire. Sandiacre sits right against the Nottinghamshire border, with the Erewash Canal cutting through a town with a population of around 9,000 people. Way before today's housing and busy roads appeared, it was a small agricultural settlement; lace, textiles and other industries later brought workshops, factories and steady expansion. The St Giles' Church provides one of the clearest links with medieval Sandiacre, though not much else remains today. Transport is a strong point, with the M1 motorway, A52 and A6005 close by, plus rail services are available from Long Eaton. The canal towpath gives walkers and cyclists an easy escape into the countryside, while shops, schools and pubs cover the practical stuff for local people. National Trust-owned Kedleston Hall and English Heritage's Bolsover Castle are among the bigger historic outings that are within easy driving distance.
