Castleton is a village and civil parish that is located in the High Peak district of Derbyshire, England. Castleton is tucked beneath Mam Tor at the head of the Hope Valley, and despite drawing alot of visitors, it still feels like a real Peak District village. Fewer than 700 people actually live in the parish, and its story is closely linked to the medieval Peveril Castle, lead mining and the area's rare Blue John stone. The A6187 runs through the valley towards Sheffield, while Hope railway station, around two miles away, is the place to catch trains to Sheffield and Manchester. Pubs, cafés, outdoor shops and small independent businesses fill the centre of Castleton, with Peak Cavern, Speedwell Cavern and Blue John Cavern close by. English Heritage looks after Peveril Castle, while the National Trust's dramatic Mam Tor countryside begins just above the village.
