Anstey is a busy village that is located to the north-west of Leicester. It has about 7,000 residents and a history going back to the days of the Domesday Book. Farming, framework knitting and later boot and shoe manufacturing all played their part in shaping the Anstey area before modern housing arrived. The A46 runs close by, giving handy road links with Leicester, the M1 and surrounding towns, whilst regular buses cover most local journeys. Anstey has a decent selection of shops, pubs, schools, healthcare and community facilities, with Bradgate Park practically on the doorstep. Cropston Reservoir and Beacon Hill are also nearby, while National Trust-owned Stoneywell and English Heritage's Kirby Muxloe Castle make for good days out.
