Biddulph sits quietly in the north of Staffordshire, right on the edge of the Cheshire border, tucked between The Potteries and the Peak District. It's one of those towns that has a proper community feel, plenty of green space, and enough going on to keep life ticking along at a nice, steady pace. Surrounded by rolling countryside, wooded hills and lovely gardens, Biddulph gives you that bit of space while still being close to bigger towns like Congleton, Leek and Stoke-on-Trent.

Historically, Biddulph started off as a small agricultural settlement, but like many towns in the area, it grew with the rise of coal mining and the ceramics industry during the 19th century. The Biddulph Valley coalfield helped bring people and industry to the area, while the nearby canals and railways kept things moving. The town also has strong links to horticulture, thanks to the famous Biddulph Grange Garden. These days, the town's population sits at around 20,000, and while the pits have long since closed, Biddulph's kept its rural charm and strong sense of identity.

One of the big draws here is the National Trust's Biddulph Grange Garden, an extraordinary Victorian garden packed with exotic plants, themed areas and hidden surprises. You can stroll through Chinese pagodas, Egyptian temples, and even a Himalayan glen. The town also has plenty of parks and open spaces like Biddulph Valley Park and Knypersley Reservoir, both ideal for walkers and families. In nearby Congleton, you've got Astbury Mere and Congleton Park, while Mow Cop Castle, managed by English Heritage, sits just a few miles away offering great views across the Staffordshire Moorlands and Cheshire Plain.

Wider Staffordshire has plenty more to offer. Alton Towers is under an hour away for those after a bit of thrill-seeking. Trentham Gardens near Stoke offers lovely lakeside walks, shopping, and the famous Monkey Forest. Over in Cannock Chase you've got miles of woodland, great for cycling or a peaceful ramble. Shugborough Estate near Stafford gives you a taste of stately home living, while Lichfield's three-spired cathedral offers a bit of history and culture. The National Memorial Arboretum near Alrewas is well worth a visit too.

Biddulph's pretty handy when it comes to getting about. The A527 links it easily to Congleton, Stoke-on-Trent and Leek, while the M6 is about 20 minutes away, giving you a straight run north or south. The nearest railway station is Congleton, with services to Manchester and Stoke. Manchester Airport is about 40 minutes by car, making it ideal for those needing flights without too much fuss. Local buses link Biddulph to surrounding villages and towns.

Staffordshire as a county has a real mix to it. You've got its famous industrial history in The Potteries, beautiful countryside in the Moorlands, and proper market towns full of character. It's a county that doesn't shout too loudly but always delivers — great for walking, rich in heritage, packed with friendly locals, and full of places that are perfect for exploring or settling down in.
