Longton sits in the southern part of Stoke-on-Trent, one of the six towns that make up The Potteries, and carries with it that same proud, no-nonsense vibe that runs through much of Staffordshire. While its industrial past is still very much part of its identity, Longton has grown into a busy town with a strong local community, bustling shops, and easy links to both the countryside and surrounding towns. You'll still find traces of its pottery heritage dotted around, mixed in with plenty of modern life.

Longton's history is tied closely to the rise of the pottery industry that put The Potteries on the global map. The town grew rapidly in the 18th and 19th centuries as it became home to dozens of pottery works, using the local clay and coal to produce ceramics shipped all over the world. Names like Aynsley and Minton have deep roots here. As the industrial revolution boomed, Longton thrived, though like much of Stoke, the decline of heavy industry brought change. Today, Longton is home to around 37,000 people, with many working locally or commuting into nearby areas, while the town itself continues to adapt and modernise.

There's plenty to see around Longton and nearby. The Gladstone Pottery Museum is a real gem, offering a fascinating look into the old pottery factories, complete with towering bottle kilns and hands-on exhibits. Longton Market remains a local favourite, full of independent traders selling everything from fresh produce to crafts. A short drive brings you to Trentham Gardens, with its beautiful lakeside walks, shopping village, and the popular Monkey Forest where you can wander among free-roaming Barbary macaques. Not far away, National Trust's Biddulph Grange Garden offers a quirky Victorian garden experience, while English Heritage's Stafford Castle gives you history with fantastic views.

Getting to Longton is straightforward. The town has its own railway station with regular services connecting into Stoke-on-Trent and beyond, including routes towards Derby and Crewe. The A50 dual carriageway runs right past the town, giving quick access to the M6 motorway and routes across the Midlands. Manchester Airport is about 45 minutes away by car, with Birmingham Airport also within easy reach. There are good local bus services connecting Longton with the other Potteries towns and surrounding villages.

We hope you found this Longton tourist map useful for your visit to the area.
