Located along the banks of the River Hamble, Bursledon is an attractive village that has developed into a well-established maritime community. The village has a relaxed atmosphere and a rich maritime history, having developed around beech boat building and river trade in its early days, while boats were being built for the world. The village has a population of approximately 7,000, with some areas of the village still retaining their historical character despite a number of recent housing developments. Some of the attractions located near Bursledon include the Bursledon Windmill, which is one of only a handful of functioning windmills in southern England, the River Hamble Country Park, and the historical Swanwick waterfront. Some other local historical attractions are Netley Abbey and Titchfield Abbey.
