Netley is located on the east bank of Southampton Water and presents itself as a very maritime village with an abundance of parkland surrounding it. The most recognizable landmark is the dramatic ruins of Netley Abbey, founded in the 13th Century, which attract visitors to learn about the history and take peaceful walks within the village. Following its history, the village developed with military connections in the nearby area, especially concerning the present day’s site of the former Royal Victoria Hospital. Today the village consists of around 7,000 residents and is well liked by those wishing to access coastal walks but still have easy access to Southampton City by road and rail. Royal Victoria Country Park is situated at the edge of the village and contains a variety of woodland, shoreline trails, and views of Southampton Water; it is also within a short distance of Beaulieu and the New Forest, should you wish to venture further afield. Netley Train Station has connections to travel into Southampton and Portsmouth; the M27 motorway is close and the International Airport is only approximately a 15-minute drive from the village.
