Situated in the South Downs National Park, Liss is a village with a true Hampshire rural feel. The village has existed for centuries, with origins in agriculture and coach transport. The coming of the railway during the Victorian period played a large role in Liss' growth. The population of Liss is approximately 6,000. It has grown a lot in recent years, yet retains its small, close-knit community. The village has an abundance of local shops, cafes, schools and walking routes right on its door step, as well as a host of other attractions located in and around the village, such as Uppark House and the scenic countryside surrounding Butser Hill. The Weald and Downland Living Museum, as well as Jane Austen's House, are easily accessible for a day of fun filled activity. The village has a high level of transport access for such a small place, with the A3 being very accessible, the railway station located near the centre of Liss providing direct train transport to both London and Portsmouth, with the closest airport, Southampton Airport, located within an hours drive of Liss depending upon traffic conditions.
