Oakley, located to the west of Basingstoke, is a fairly large village that feels like it’s in the country although it’s really close to one of Hampshire’s large towns. The village started out as a farm settlement and then eventually grew as Basingstoke had expansion during the 20th century. There are about 5,500 people living in Oakley, and it is a popular place for families and commuters who wish to live in an area that is quieter, yet still offers good access to local shops and transport. In the village, you will find local pubs, schools, green space and sports facilities, while the Vyne, with its fine house and gardens, lies close to Oakley, as do the Bombay Sapphire Distillery at Laverstoke Mill and the North Wessex Downs for walking and viewing the surrounding countryside. The M3 and A303 are both in easy access from Oakley; rail services are available from nearby Basingstoke; and Southampton Airport is approximately 40 minutes by car, depending on the amount of traffic.
