Middleton-on-Sea has a tranquil coastal environment in West Sussex located between Bognor Regis and Littlehampton that is characterized by a beautiful seaside promenade, clean parks and a peaceful atmosphere. Middleton grew steadily in size during the 20th century as its growing population were attracted to the natural beauty of the coast along with its temperate climate; however the area itself has long historical connections to agriculture and maritime activities prior to the arrival of the residents of today. Today, approximately 5000 people live in this small community giving it a close-knit atmosphere and numerous local cafés, pubs and small businesses comprise a significant part of daily life. There are many activities on the beach, including walking or fishing, and the surrounding area has many attractions such as Arundel Castle, Goodwood and South Downs National Park. The area has good transport links with the A259 running close by and Barnham and Littlehampton provide train service to London, Brighton and Portsmouth. Slindon Estate and Uppark House are popular National Trust properties in the area, as well as Boxgrove Priory and the historical castle and cathedral area of nearby Arundel and Chichester for Heritage visitors.
