Greenhithe is located on the southern banks of the River Thames in North Kent, nestled between Dartford and Gravesend, yet retains parts of its former riverfront character despite all the modern developments that have taken place. The village evolved as a result of the dock and chalk industry in Victorian times with steamers transporting people between London on the River Thames to the Kent Coast. At the present time, there are approximately 8,000 residents when counting the wider built-up area and the community has a traditional enough feel in relation to Kent villages as well as being busy with commuting towns.
The Greenhithe railway station provides a direct link to London and Medway, the A2 and M25 roads are within easy reach, and Ebbsfleet International rail station provides a short drive away. Bluewater shopping centre is firmly established in the local economy and attracts hundreds of thousands of people each year from throughout the South East of England, while other local attractions include the National Trust’s Owletts in Cobham, English Heritage’s Tilbury Fort on the opposite side of the river, Dartford Borough Museum, Beacon Wood and Darenth Parks, and the river walks surrounding Ingress Abbey which display an impressive Gothic Style and are distinctly ‘old England’.
We hope you found this Greenhithe tourist map useful for your visit to the area.
