Whitfield, located to the east of Dover in Kent, is a large village located between the surrounding countryside and busy ferry lanes that have been part of Kent for centuries. A small farming community on Whitfield started to develop into a bigger and bigger community throughout the 20th century with an influx of new people from Dover and further inland from the coast. It has grown to have a total population of approximately 5,500 people, which maintains a lively yet fairly laid-back atmosphere.

Whitfield is set up for good access to many different types of transport links. The A2 connects to Dover and to Canterbury and additionally, trains from Dover Priory station run every hour at 60 mph to London and other metropolitan areas, including fast trains to London. There are a variety of local shops, schools, pubs and other amenities and facilities, including easy access to various bicycle and walking trails that lead to the Kent Downs. Other popular attractions close to Whitfield include the White Cliffs of Dover and South Foreland Lighthouse (both referenced), as well as English Heritage sites that include Dover Castle, Richborough Roman Fort, St Augustine's Abbey and many other places not far away, along with many other things to see and do in Whitfield, including Samphire Hoes, Kearsney Abbey Gardens and along St Margaret's Bay.
