A classic seaside village on the edge of the Romney Marsh, Dymchurch is located close enough to the sea that it attracts families back every year for its magnificent sandy beach, large seawall, and old-fashioned holiday vibes. Originally a farming village dating back to the Middle Ages; the marshes were formed by farming, fishing, and the constant struggle against floods caused by the sea. At present, approximately 5,000 reside in Dymchurch, but summer months create an influx of tourists filling up caravans and holiday parks contributing to the busyness of the area.
The village is connected through the A259 coastal route with trains available from Folkestone and Ashford. One of the most popular attractions in Dymchurch is the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, a miniature steam railway which traverses the marshes and has become an icon to Kent. Some National Trust properties close to Dymchurch are Smallhythe Place & White Cliffs of Dover, and English Heritage Properties such as St Augustine's Abbey and Richborough Roman Fort can be visited within a day. The Port of Lympne Safari Park, Hythe seafront, and the large open areas of Romney Marsh help give the village its relaxed feel.
